Gears of War: E-Day Weapons List and Roles

A currently documented E-Day weapons index covering official roles, reload changes, ballistics, Heavy Weapon handling, and facts that still need launch-build verification.

The currently documented E-Day arsenal includes returning weapons with rebuilt behavior and additional weapons shown or named in official material. This page lists only roles that first-party sources explain. It is not a complete launch inventory and does not supply unsupported damage, range, pickup, rarity, or unlock numbers.

Every weapon uses simulated projectile travel. Mode scope matters: Horde Siege and Campaign can apply Weapon Mods, while Versus uses equal starts with no Weapon Mods and contests Power Weapons on the map.

Close-range and round-by-round weapons

Gnasher

The Gnasher is the core close-range shotgun. E-Day gives it a six-shell capacity and a round-by-round active reload, allowing the player to load one or two shells quickly instead of committing to a complete cycle. The decision is whether the next immediate fight needs one round or whether the lane is safe enough to rebuild the reserve.

Official sources do not provide a final damage cone, gib distance, reload window, or Horde mod table. Those values should be measured by mode and build, not imported from Gears 5.

Breechshot

The returning Breechshot shares the round-by-round reload system. In PvP, the official gameplay article says a headshot can kill in one shot. It also features axe-based executions. That does not establish PvE health breakpoints or every body-shot result.

Its precision demand and reload flexibility create a different job from simply treating it as a second Gnasher. Use current training to learn travel, sway, and recovery before making a competitive claim.

Rifles and sustained pressure

Prototype Lancer

The Prototype Lancer is positioned as a versatile all-round rifle with a higher fire rate and deeper magazine than recent Lancers. The player should track a moving target through projectile travel and sustained recoil. Horde progression can unlock Weapon Mods for it, and the same customization is shared when another Horde class equips the weapon.

Hammerburst

E-Day’s Hammerburst draws from the original Gears version and fires an accurate six-round burst. A Perfect Active Reload increases its fire rate. Use controlled bursts at the distance where the pattern remains useful rather than turning every trigger press into uncontrolled sustained fire.

Lancer MK1 / Retro Lancer

The Lancer MK1 returns to the Retro Lancer role: dangerous at close range and usable farther out when the shooter controls its strong recoil. “Usable” is not the same as optimal, and projectile lead becomes more important outside the intended range.

Sidearm, precision, and sightline tools

Snub

The Snub fires as quickly as the trigger is pressed and has fast draw and stow behavior. It is a cleanup tool when a primary is empty, slow to recover, or poorly suited to a wounded nearby target. Its value comes from transition speed as well as raw shots.

Longshot

The Longshot appears in official campaign and weapon discussion as a precision option for elevated or long lanes. First-person scopes have sway in E-Day, and simulated travel rewards lead. A complete Longshot spawn or damage guide needs the live map and mode.

Smoke Grenade

Smoke uses volumetric coverage to block both player and AI sightlines. It can hide a reposition, carrier movement, revive, or close push. In Horde Siege, grenades share an inventory slot with equipment, so choosing smoke may mean giving up another tool.

Heavy Weapons

Heavy Weapons slow movement but allow more actions than older implementations. Some can be pulled from turret bases, which can turn a static defense into portable firepower. The Locust Prototype Boomshot is classified as a Heavy Weapon in E-Day and is intended to deliver a substantial kick without becoming an unchecked normal pickup.

Before detaching a Heavy, verify that the turret is no longer more valuable in place. Mark the carrier’s destination and cover route. In Horde Siege, moving a Heavy away from the objective can weaken the defense even when the weapon is powerful.

Newly named weapons need scoped entries

Official showcase and campaign material has named weapons such as the Gut Puncher and Incinerator, but a safe index does not invent their full statistics, unlocks, locations, or final mode availability from a short presentation. They remain known E-Day weapons whose detailed cards require a first-party mechanic description or current-build observation.

Likewise, a weapon visible in a trailer is not automatically part of every Versus loadout or Horde cache pool. Each future entry should record acquisition, mode, branch, build date, ammunition behavior, and the source that proves it.

How to compare two weapons correctly

First match the mode and build. Then compare the encounter: distance, enemy motion, armor or critical access, ammunition, cover, and required objective time. Finally record whether a mod is equipped.

Use a practical test:

  1. Fire at the intended range and observe tracer travel.
  2. Repeat while the target moves laterally.
  3. Reload from empty and from a partial magazine.
  4. Test the weapon after a shoulder swap from both cover sides.
  5. In Horde, repeat with the exact named mod and class level.
  6. In Versus, remove all Horde assumptions and test the map pickup version.

This produces a role comparison. It does not create a universal tier because objectives and ammunition access can outweigh theoretical damage.

Unknown fields this index leaves blank

The complete launch list, Campaign pickup order, all Power Weapon spawns, cache probabilities, damage numbers, range curves, reload timings, mod unlock levels, mod prices, and post-launch balance are not fully public. Blank fields are safer than values copied from another Gears title or a Beta build without a date.

When the base game releases, each fact should carry AppID 3010850, Steam Windows, public branch/build context, mode, and observation date. Beta-only results should remain attached to AppID 4059240.

Weapons FAQ

Is this the complete E-Day weapons list?

No. It is a known, officially supported index as of August 8, 2026. The complete launch inventory requires the shipping build.

Which weapon is best?

No universal answer is established. Range, mode, objective, ammunition, current balance, and Weapon Mods change the comparison.

Does the Gnasher still use a full-magazine reload only?

No. E-Day adds a round-by-round active reload to the Gnasher and Breechshot.

Do weapon skins change performance?

The announced weapon skin sets are customization. No official source reviewed here says a cosmetic skin changes weapon statistics.

Official sources checked August 8, 2026: Gameplay Updates, Multiplayer Deep Dive, and the Xbox Wire showcase feature. Unknown statistics and locations are deliberately omitted.
