Weapon Mods are a persistent Horde Siege customization system in Gears of War: E-Day. A mod first unlocks on a class’s thirty-level progression track, then must be purchased with Weapon Parts before it can be equipped. Some make a subtle tactical adjustment; others change functionality, with a Gnasher bayonet given as an official example.
Weapon configurations are shared across Horde classes that equip the same gun. Versus disables Weapon Mods completely.
Unlock and purchase are separate steps
Advancing a class reveals weapons, equipment, Armor Mods, Tactical Gear Mods, and Weapon Mods. Reaching the required level makes a Weapon Mod available; it does not necessarily place it into the inventory for free.
Open the class track, confirm the exact unlock and weapon, then check the Weapon Part cost in the current build. Do not publish a cost or level from a Beta screenshot as permanent.
Some Weapon Parts come through progression, while mission-found parts depend on successful Horde extraction.
Extract the parts before planning the purchase
Secondary Objectives, COG Resupplies, and other mission activities can yield Weapon Parts. A Weapon Part Stockpile may require coordination with other squads. These opportunities also attract pressure or pull the squad away from the R.I.G.
Check squad lives, main-objective state, distance, and extraction reserve before chasing parts. Collected mission parts are kept only when at least one squad member extracts successfully.
After the mission, distinguish parts shown as retained from pickups that were lost with a failed run. Partial XP does not imply part retention.
Shared configuration requires communication
If a Prototype Lancer setup is equipped for Assault, the same mods and cosmetics apply when another Horde class equips that Prototype Lancer. A change made for one build can therefore affect another.
Keep a simple weapon card listing each equipped mod and the role it solves. Before replacing a mod, check every class that uses the weapon. The system is shared by weapon, not an independent duplicate for every class.
Cosmetics and mechanical mods are different fields even when the customization screen shows both.
Test the unmodified baseline first
Choose a stable target, distance, difficulty, playlist, and public build. Record unmodified projectile behavior, reload, ammunition, handling, and objective usefulness. Equip one mod and repeat.
Do not change an Armor Mod, Tactical Gear Mod, difficulty, and weapon at the same time. The result would not show which layer caused the difference.
For a functional change such as a bayonet, test activation, recovery, range, and risk rather than assuming an execution always succeeds.
Separate the three mod families
Armor Mods change the soldier, including published examples such as health, reserves, swap speed, or conditional Perfect Active ammo. Tactical Gear Mods change the class tool’s cooldown, range, or effects. Weapon Mods change a specific weapon.
A strong build can combine them, but a guide must attribute each result correctly. Faster swapping is not a rifle mod if it comes from armor. A larger Stim area is not a weapon property.
List the exact names and descriptions so readers can reproduce the setup after balance changes.
Keep Versus clean
All Versus players start with equal loadouts, contest on-map Power Weapons, and have no Weapon Mods. A modified Horde Gnasher, Prototype Lancer, or other gun does not enter TDM, Conquest, Demolition, or Crucible.
When comparing weapon guides, label the mode at the top. Delete mod assumptions from PvP advice rather than adding a small disclaimer after the numbers.
Campaign edition content can include named custom weapons or mods, but that does not make the Horde progression system universally active in Campaign.
Update a mod guide after patches
Archive the earlier public build and test card. Recheck unlock level, cost, description, activation, and interaction with other mods. If only wording changed, do not assume behavior changed; if behavior changed, do not leave the old number undated.
Use AppID 3010850 for base-game evidence and keep Beta AppID 4059240 separate. A post-launch season may introduce classes or content that did not exist at launch.
Recommend a mod only for a named objective, class job, and difficulty. Avoid a timeless tier list for a live balance system.
