Gears of War: E-Day rebuilds its weapons around simulated projectile travel, visible tracers and hit effects, shoulder swapping, new reload behavior, and mode-specific customization. Returning weapons such as the Gnasher, Prototype Lancer, Hammerburst, Breechshot, Retro Lancer, Snub, Longshot, and Smoke Grenade have publicly described changes. Heavy Weapons can be carried through more movement actions, and Horde Siege plus Campaign use Weapon Mods while Versus deliberately does not.
This hub tracks the arsenal for Steam base-game AppID 3010850. The separate Multiplayer Beta, AppID 4059240, exposes a limited pool and provisional balance. Damage, range falloff, spread, reload frames, pickup positions, mod prices, and a permanent “best weapons” ranking need a dated playable build.
Start with ballistics and lane length
E-Day’s projectiles have simulated travel time. At longer ranges, a player may need to lead a moving target instead of placing the reticle directly on the current position. Tracers and impact effects are intended to reflect the same simulation, providing feedback about whether the miss came from lead, recoil, or range.
Weapon selection should therefore begin with lane length and target motion. A close weapon loses value across an exposed avenue, while a precision weapon may be too slow when enemies break cover nearby. Automatic weapons can reward controlled bursts, and first-person scopes have sway. The weapon’s designed range is a practical limit even when a projectile can physically travel farther.
Shoulder swap lets the player change which side of the character the aim uses. Use it to expose less of the body around either edge of cover, then reset when the lane changes. This is a positioning tool rather than a damage bonus.
Understand the Gnasher and Breechshot reload change
The Gnasher and Breechshot gain a round-by-round active reload system. A player can load one or two rounds for an immediate finish rather than always completing a full reload cycle. The official gameplay update says the Gnasher carries six shells in E-Day, down from eight in some previous entries, as part of the balance around hot reloading.
This creates a decision between time and reserve. After a close fight, one round may be enough to stop the next push; before a planned engagement, a fuller reload may avoid running empty at the worst moment. Watch the active-reload interface and do not assume the input timing or Perfect window matches another Gears game.
The active reload bar defaults near the center of the screen below the reticle, with a setting for players who prefer its classic upper-right position. Its placement can improve visibility, but it does not change the underlying success window.
Place the core rifles and sidearm
The Prototype Lancer is described as a versatile rifle with a higher rate of fire and deeper magazine than recent Lancers. Track targets rather than expecting every burst to behave like hitscan fire. The weapon also participates in the mod system outside Versus.
The Hammerburst returns to an accurate six-round burst identity. Its Perfect Active Reload effect increases rate of fire, so reload execution and recoil control shape its sustained pressure. The Lancer MK1, also called the Retro Lancer, is dangerous at close range and can work farther out if the player controls its strong recoil.
The Snub fires as quickly as the player can pull the trigger and is fast to draw and stow, making it a cleanup option rather than a weapon to ignore after the primary runs dry. Public descriptions give these roles, not final time-to-kill tables.
Separate precision and Power Weapon questions
The Longshot represents the precision side of the sandbox, where scope sway, projectile travel, sightline selection, and critical targets matter. The Breechshot is announced as capable of a one-shot headshot in PvP and also supports round-by-round reloading. A published headshot behavior does not establish every body-shot value or PvE modifier.
Versus teams contest on-map Power Weapons from equal starting loadouts. Their spawn locations and timing are part of each map’s strategy and must be checked in the current playlist. Horde Siege can also produce weapons through Supply Caches, COG Resupplies, and progression-dependent options. Do not merge these acquisition rules into one universal location table.
Use Smoke and Heavy Weapons for space
Smoke Grenades use volumetric smoke that blocks player and AI sightlines, supporting repositioning or a covered push. Because grenades and equipment occupy the same inventory slot in Horde Siege, picking up smoke may replace a defensive tool. Check the slot before confirming the choice.
Heavy Weapons slow the carrier, but most movement actions remain possible. Players can rip a Heavy Weapon from some turret bases. The Heavy Boomshot is presented as the Locust Prototype Boomshot, giving it a heavier battlefield role while retaining balance constraints.
Heavy power is also a movement problem. Choose a route with cover, assign a teammate to watch the carrier, and know where the weapon will be useful before detaching it. Carrying it away from a required defense can reduce total squad firepower.
Keep Weapon Mods in the correct modes
Campaign and Horde Siege use Weapon Mods. In Horde Siege, class progression unlocks a mod, then Weapon Parts purchase it. Parts found during a mission are retained only after successful extraction. Customization for the same weapon is shared across Horde classes.
Mods can adjust a weapon gently or change its function more noticeably; the official example even mentions a Gnasher bayonet. Armor Mods and Tactical Gear Mods are separate systems and should not be filed as weapon attachments.
Versus has no Weapon Mods. Every player begins on an equal footing, and on-map pickups supply the competitive advantage. A recommendation that depends on a Horde mod is invalid for PvP even if the base weapon name matches.
Make a weapon choice with five fields
Use a small lookup rather than a permanent tier list:
- Mode: Campaign, Horde Siege, or Versus.
- Range: close, mid, long, or mixed.
- Target: groups, armored pressure, precision threat, or objective denial.
- Acquisition: starting loadout, map pickup, cache, turret, or class unlock.
- Version: public build or update date, including any equipped mod.
Then test whether the weapon solves the intended encounter. A lower scoreboard total can still be correct if smoke opened the objective, a precision shot removed the high-value threat, or a Heavy Weapon stopped an Invasion Event.

Arsenal mistakes that create false comparisons
- Comparing a modded Horde weapon with its unmodded Versus version.
- Treating a Beta pickup pool as the complete launch arsenal.
- Copying damage or falloff numbers without AppID, build, platform, mode, and test method.
- Assuming the Gnasher has an older eight-shell capacity when the E-Day article states six.
- Ignoring projectile lead because a weapon from a previous game felt instant.
- Calling a newly named weapon “best” before its acquisition, ammunition, and encounter role are verified.
- Turning an edition-exclusive skin or Campaign weapon pack into a claim about a separate base weapon.
