Gears of War: E-Day Horde Class Builds

Build an evidence-based Horde class setup from objective needs, Armor Mods, Tactical Gear Mods, Weapon Mods, and extracted Weapon Parts.

An E-Day Horde build combines a class role, starting loadout, Armor Mods, Tactical Gear Mods, and Weapon Mods. Each launch class has thirty progression levels, and milestone levels also improve base health and damage. Weapon Mods unlock on class tracks, then require Weapon Parts before they can be equipped.

Before Gears of War: E-Day releases, a responsible build guide cannot name a permanent best setup. It can show how to choose, test, and document one without inventing values.

Begin with the mission failure you want to solve

Write one sentence before opening the build screen: “We lose the Repair carrier,” “our Defend line breaks at close range,” “the squad cannot identify heavy threats,” or “extraction revives fail.” This creates a testable goal.

Choose the class whose published role addresses it. Assault offers midrange cover damage and a stun. Breacher creates close openings with health and damage reduction. Marksman tags targets and improves critical pressure. Medic heals and revives within range.

Do not choose a class only because a scoreboard clip shows high damage. The mission objective and squad’s repeated failure determine value.

Armor Mods change the soldier

Official examples say Armor Mods can affect health, ammunition reserves, weapon-swap speed, or create benefits such as Perfect Active ammunition after executions. These changes shape how reliably the player performs a job.

Select survivability when the player dies before using gear. Select ammunition when the role repeatedly runs dry despite reasonable resupply. Select swap speed when a transition between range roles causes downs. A conditional execution benefit is useful only if the build can perform and survive those executions.

Record the exact named mod and text. Do not shorten a conditional effect into an unconditional statistic.

Tactical Gear Mods change the class action

Tactical Gear Mods can reduce cooldowns, increase range, or add effects to the class’s unique equipment. Pick them around the action the squad needs: a wider Stim recovery, more available Disruptor windows, a reliable Injector entry, or better Pulse Drone information.

Range is not always better than timing, and cooldown is not always better than impact. If the squad wastes gear, improve calls before spending a slot to make the same mistake more frequently.

Test the base gear first. Then equip one mod and repeat the same objective, difficulty, and route.

Weapon Mods change a shared weapon profile

Weapon customization is shared across Horde classes. If a Prototype Lancer is modified for Assault, those equipped modifications and cosmetics apply when another class uses that weapon. This makes each weapon setup a cross-class decision.

Some Weapon Mods make small tactical adjustments; others change functionality. The Coalition gives adding a bayonet to the Gnasher as an example. Every mod still needs an unlock and Weapon Part purchase.

Compare the weapon with and without the exact mod at the same range and target. Record projectile behavior, reload, ammunition, and objective role. A Horde result never applies to Versus, where Weapon Mods are disabled.

Acquire Weapon Parts without throwing the run

Some parts come from class progression, while mission-found parts are earned through activities and retained only after successful extraction. Secondary Objectives and Weapon Part Stockpiles can improve the return, but they also draw pressure or require coordination.

Before detouring, check squad lives, main-objective state, distance, and extraction reserve. One part kept is worth more than several lost in a wipe. Other squads may need to coordinate for a stockpile, so use clear signals and do not assume cooperation.

After extraction, purchase only a mod already unlocked on the relevant class track.

Create a baseline build card

Every published build should state:

  • AppID 3010850 and public build date.
  • Horde map, playlist, objective, and difficulty.
  • Class level and all equipped mod names.
  • Starting loadout and relevant purchases.
  • Squad composition and duplicate classes.
  • The problem being tested and observed result.

Without this context, readers cannot tell whether a setup is launch-current, Beta-only, or dependent on a teammate.

Change one layer at a time

Run the baseline, then change either one Armor Mod, one Tactical Gear Mod, one Weapon Mod, or one team assignment. Keep the rest stable. Compare objective completion, downs, gear windows, ammunition failures, and extraction—not only total score.

If the result improves once, repeat. Procedural missions, Invasion Events, and other squads can create an unusually easy or difficult run. A build recommendation needs several comparable observations.

Archive the old card after a patch. Silent edits make historical test results misleading.

Example roles without fake loadouts

An objective-control Assault prioritizes useful cover, Disruptor availability, and a midrange weapon that can remain on the R.I.G. An entry Breacher prioritizes the Injector window, close ammunition, and a planned exit. An information Marksman prioritizes Pulse Drone coverage and repeatable critical access. A recovery Medic prioritizes safe Stim reach and survival through the revive window.

These are evaluation profiles, not item lists. The exact launch catalog, unlock order, percentages, and final balance are not fully public as of August 8, 2026.

Builds FAQ

How many levels does each launch class have?

Thirty levels are announced for each class at launch.

Are Weapon Mods unlocked immediately?

No. They unlock through class progression and must then be purchased with Weapon Parts.

Do builds work in Versus?

No. Versus disables Weapon Mods and uses equal starting loadouts.
