Gears of War: E-Day Coins and Iron Guide

Earn Coins through matches, ten-level milestones, and medals; understand the weekly cap boundary and when Iron or Coins can buy Barracks items.

Coins are E-Day’s free-to-earn customization currency. They can be spent in the Barracks on specific individual items. The official economy names three Coin sources: multiplayer match performance, a batch at every ten Player Levels, and rewards from many medal tiers.

Iron can be an alternative acquisition currency for eligible Barracks items after limited-reward cooldowns. Pre-release material reviewed here does not provide a complete Iron price, pack, or earning table, so this guide does not invent one.

Earn Coins by playing multiplayer

Horde Siege and Versus matches grant Coins based on performance and score. Complete the mode’s objective and finish the match; a farming strategy that causes mission failure or a Ranked loss can underperform even when it creates visible actions.

Horde rewards should be recorded after extraction or the final results screen. Versus rewards should be attached to Social or Ranked context. Do not assume Campaign play grants match Coins without the live game stating it.

Exact Coin rates require the current public build and can be updated.

Player Level provides milestone batches

Every ten Player Levels awards a Coin batch. Player XP is earned through Horde Siege, Versus, and weekly challenges, so ordinary multiplayer progression moves toward these milestones.

Record the Coin balance before and after the level result to isolate the award. A match can grant both performance Coins and a milestone batch, and combining them produces a false per-match rate.

Re-Up resets Player Level to 1 after level 100, but repeat milestone behavior should be verified in the live progression screen rather than assumed.

Medals award uncapped Coins

Many medal tiers grant Coins, with larger rewards at higher medal levels according to the official overview. Coins from medals and Player Level are not subject to the weekly cap that applies to match completion earnings.

That boundary matters. Reaching a match cap does not mean the account is unable to receive all Coins. A medal or milestone can still add an award.

Capture the medal completion and results screen if the balance behaves unexpectedly. Avoid naming a fixed amount before the live series is visible.

Understand the weekly cap correctly

Only Coins earned from match completion are described as having a weekly cap. The Coalition says the cap is intended to be more than enough for a Legendary Character Skin with Coins left over, but does not publish a permanent exact number in the pre-release article.

Do not present a cached Beta counter as launch truth. Read the live reset display, region/time handling, and remaining earnable amount. Continue playing for XP, class progression, medals, challenges, and enjoyment even if match Coins have reached their current cap.

Never use third-party software to bypass an economy limit.

Spend Coins on a specific item

The Barracks lets players target items rather than opening random reward packs. Compare the exact item, rarity, current Coin price, acquisition method, and whether a challenge is active.

An active challenge or achievement reward cannot be bypassed with Coins. Limited seasonal or event rewards can enter the Barracks only after expiry and a cooldown. Wait for official availability.

Premium Edition content, charity offers, and partnership items are documented pay-only exceptions and should not be promised for Coins.

Use Iron only where the live catalog permits

Official progression text says expired limited rewards can eventually be acquired for Coins or Iron after their cooldown. That does not establish that every Barracks item accepts Iron, that Iron has one fixed exchange rate, or that challenge-active rewards are buyable.

Read the currency icon and confirmation dialog. Record taxes or platform pricing only from the official Steam/Xbox transaction surface and current region. Do not buy codes from unofficial sellers.

If a purchase appears wrong, capture the item, currency, balance change, account, time, and receipt before contacting support.

Keep currencies distinct from Horde resources

Horde Energy is a shared in-session resource spent at caches and turrets and does not become account Coins after the mission. Weapon Parts persist after successful extraction and buy unlocked Weapon Mods. Player Coins buy customization in the Barracks.

Do not call all three “currency” without scope. Losing a Horde extraction can forfeit mission-found Weapon Parts but does not prove that existing Coins disappeared.

Rank Rating and XP are progress measures, not spendable balances.
