Gears of War: E-Day has four announced Horde Siege classes at launch: Assault, Breacher, Marksman, and Medic. Each begins with a distinct loadout, receives a combat bonus, carries unique Tactical Gear on a timed cooldown, and progresses through thirty class levels. Classes are tied to gameplay, not character skins, so you can combine a preferred class with the character appearance you want.
There is no required one-of-each composition. The Coalition explicitly says a squad may run duplicates, even four Breachers. Pick against the mission, map sightlines, difficulty, and teammates rather than treating a permanent tier list as established fact. Steam base-game AppID 3010850 owns the launch system; Beta impressions from AppID 4059240 are version-sensitive.
Assault: flexible midrange control
Assault begins from the most adaptable range profile. Its official combat bonus increases damage while in cover, and its Sonic Disruptor can stun waves of incoming enemies. That combination suits objective defense, lane stabilization, and squads that need a player who can move between damage and control without committing to the nearest or farthest fight.
Choose Assault when the mission has mixed engagement distances or when the group lacks a reliable way to interrupt a push. Do not translate “flexible” into “best at everything.” Breacher has stronger close-range identity, Marksman is built for precision, and Medic has broader recovery utility.
The Assault class guide explains how to time the Disruptor around objective pressure without inventing final cooldowns or mod values.
Breacher: close-range risk and recovery
Breacher is designed to push the frontline with close-range damage. The Adrenaline Injector refills health and reduces incoming damage, while the class has improved resistance to status effects and melee damage. This kit supports a high-risk entry, rescue, or clutch play where remaining at distance would fail the objective.
The mistake is confusing temporary durability with invulnerability. A Breacher who crosses several uncovered lanes, separates from revive support, or activates gear after taking lethal focus can spend a squad life instead of creating space. Choose the class when the player can read an entry and return route.
Marksman: precision across long sightlines
Marksman is built for Horde Siege’s larger maps. Its Pulse Drone tags Locust for the player and squad, and the class receives improved critical-hit damage. It fits missions where early identification and removal of dangerous targets is more valuable than pushing into the objective first.
Marksman value depends on sightline and target priority. A narrow interior, heavy pressure at the R.I.G., or poor critical access can reduce its cleanest advantage. The player should be ready to reposition rather than holding an attractive but irrelevant angle.
Public sources confirm the role and gear, but not a final critical multiplier, drone duration, cooldown, weapon tier, or universal loadout. Those require a dated build observation.
Medic: recovery across squad boundaries
Medic is a midrange revive specialist. The Stim Vaporizer heals and revives any Gear in range, including downed soldiers from other squads, and the class benefits from faster health regeneration. On a twelve-player battlefield, that creates value beyond the four-person mission group during shared pressure or an Invasion Event.
Medic is not limited to passive backline play; the official description says the class can hold its own. Its strongest decisions are about timing and position. A Vaporizer used after the team scatters may reach nobody, while standing beside every downed player can expose the Medic to the same attack.
Compare by mission question
Use the objective to make the first choice:
- Who stops a wave from reaching the R.I.G.? Assault can add stun control from cover.
- Who creates space inside a dangerous position? Breacher can pair close damage with temporary recovery and mitigation.
- Who removes a distant high-value threat? Marksman is designed for long lanes and critical hits.
- Who prevents one down from becoming a wipe? Medic has the widest explicit revive tool.
Then check what the squad already has. Duplicate classes are valid when the job also duplicates—for example, a close-range route with several breach points. They are weaker when everyone needs the same safe cover or leaves another essential task unanswered.
Progression changes a class without changing its identity
Every completed Horde Siege mission earns Class XP. Thirty launch levels unlock loadout weapons and equipment, Armor Mods, Tactical Gear Mods, and Weapon Mods, with base health and damage increases at milestones. A new class and a level-thirty class are therefore not fair inputs to a “best class” comparison.
Armor Mods affect the soldier through attributes such as health, ammo reserve, swap speed, or special effects. Tactical Gear Mods change the class-specific equipment through cooldown, range, or added effects. Weapon Mods alter weapons and are unlocked on the class track, then bought with Weapon Parts. Weapon customization is shared across classes when the same weapon is equipped.
Versus is separate: it has no Weapon Mods and does not use these Horde class builds. Campaign also should not be described through the Horde class system unless the release build explicitly connects them.
Build a squad without a rigid tier list
Start with the mission’s likely failure point. A Defend objective may prioritize control and recovery; a long traversal mission may value sightline coverage and a safe entry tool; an extraction plan needs enough mobility and rescue capacity to leave with collected Weapon Parts.
Ask each player to state one primary job and one recovery job. An Assault might control the first wave and cover tag retrieval. A Breacher might clear an interaction point and escort a repair carrier. A Marksman might remove high-value targets and watch a retreat lane. A Medic might preserve the objective group and assist another squad during a shared event.
After the run, change only one variable—class, gear mod, weapon, or squad assignment—so the effect is visible. Beta build changes, difficulty, class level, and teammate coordination should appear beside any future ranking.
What is not confirmed enough to publish as a build
Final starting loadout lists, damage percentages, gear cooldowns, mod unlock levels, Weapon Part prices, critical multipliers, and best-in-slot combinations were not available as stable official tables at this checkpoint. The four identities and their headline tools are official; a numeric build page must wait for a dated public build or detailed update note.
This is why the pilot contains one representative class page rather than four mechanically varied templates. Breacher, Marksman, and Medic deserve their own guides only when each can answer equipment, unlock, timing, and recovery questions with evidence instead of substituting nouns into the Assault structure.
Classes FAQ
Can two players choose the same class?
Yes. Duplicate classes are allowed, and The Coalition explicitly says squads can experiment with any composition.
Are classes tied to Marcus, Dom, or a specific skin?
No. Classes can be combined with any skin, separating combat choice from appearance.
How many levels does each class have?
Thirty levels are announced for each class at launch.
Will new classes be added?
More classes are planned through seasonal updates. Their names, dates, and abilities should not be guessed before an official announcement.
