Gears of War: E-Day Power Weapons and Heavy Weapons

Distinguish Versus Power Weapons from Horde Heavy Weapons, contest pickups with team cover, and handle detached turret weapons without mixing modes.

In E-Day Versus, Power Weapons are contested map pickups that break the symmetry of equal starting loadouts. In Horde Siege, Heavy Weapons slow carriers, can include weapons detached from upgraded turret installations, and help squads answer major pressure. These terms describe different mode systems and should not be merged into one spawn list.

Gears of War: E-Day official material identifies the Locust Prototype Boomshot as a substantial Heavy Weapon, but the complete launch locations and statistics remain unpublished.

Versus: control the route before the pickup

Every core mode begins with equal weapons and equipment and disables Weapon Mods. Power Weapons create a temporary advantage only if the team can collect, protect, and use them for the win condition.

Assign a pickup player, a cover player, and an objective-aware fallback. On TDM, do not spend multiple lives retrieving a nearly empty drop. In Conquest, the weapon should help break or hold the active zone. In Demolition, it should create a bomb route or plant retake. In Crucible, it should protect or displace the Core carrier.

Exact spawns can differ by map, playlist, or build. Learn them in Player vs Bot and record current evidence.

Deny an enemy-held Power Weapon

If the opponent wins the pickup, stop contesting the empty pedestal. Identify the weapon’s strongest lane, use hard cover or volumetric smoke to reduce its value, and force shots at low-priority targets.

Track where the carrier falls. Recover only when the route is tradeable. A dropped weapon can be bait for a second elimination.

Do not claim a fixed ammunition count unless the current pickup HUD proves it. Balance patches can change ammo without changing the map.

Horde: decide whether a turret should stay mounted

Energy can purchase and upgrade turret installations at specific defensive positions. Turrets can be detached, giving a player a Heavy Weapon. Detachment creates flexibility but removes the weapon from its static role and slows the carrier.

Before pulling it free, ask whether the next objective moves, whether the current turret lane still protects the R.I.G., who escorts the carrier, and where the Heavy can be placed or abandoned safely.

A mobile weapon is not automatically an upgrade. During Defend, the fixed field of fire may matter more; during Repair or extraction, portability may solve the route.

Carry Heavy without blocking the squad

Heavy Weapons slow movement, so choose a short path with full cover and a teammate watching the close lane. Do not stand in an interaction point, narrow doorway, or retreat route where the model blocks other players.

Fire for a defined target: a major Locust, packed lane, objective break, or extraction clear. Save ammunition for the threat that justifies the movement cost.

When an Invasion Event begins, read whether extractions or caches are disabled before moving the Heavy toward an obsolete plan.

Prototype Boomshot scope

Official gameplay coverage calls the Locust Prototype Boomshot a Heavy Weapon and emphasizes its force. That does not establish final splash radius, capacity, reload, friendly interaction, Horde cache rate, Campaign chapter, or Versus spawn.

Test direct and nearby impacts separately after launch. Record mode, difficulty, distance, target, ammunition source, and public build. Do not transfer a Horde boss result into a Ranked damage claim.

If the weapon appears under different names or variants, use the on-screen identity rather than merging them by silhouette.

Mods and Power Weapon fairness

Horde Weapon Mods can change persistent weapons after class progression and Weapon Part purchase. The live game must confirm whether a particular Heavy accepts any mod; the general system is not proof that all weapons do.

Versus has no Weapon Mods. Equal starts and on-map control are central to its competitive fairness. Cosmetics likewise should not be presented as performance changes.

Campaign-only signature custom weapons or mods from an edition are a third scope and do not belong in a Versus pickup table.

Build a reliable spawn record

For Versus, list map, mode, side-neutral landmark, pickup name, starting ammunition, respawn observation, and public build. For Horde, list map, objective, turret/cache/event source, movement effect, squad Energy cost, and extraction state.

Repeat the observation. A rotating featured mode or one procedural mission may move access. Use screenshots for location proof while keeping unsupported coordinates out of prose.

Update after patches and label Beta AppID 4059240 separately from base AppID 3010850.
