Gears of War: E-Day supports the full campaign with up to four players online. Bravo Squad has four playable members—Marcus Fenix, Dominic Santiago, Mags Carter, and Lucas Reyes—and the official campaign feature says any of them can be played from the beginning. On Steam, this is Online Co-op for base-game AppID 3010850. PC local split-screen is not supported; the announced two-player split-screen option is console-only.
Direct answer: plan one Windows PC, one game entitlement, and one online player slot per Steam participant. Do not buy a second controller expecting it to create a local second campaign seat on PC.
Choose the correct product and access window
The campaign is part of Gears of War: E-Day, not the separate Multiplayer Beta. Steam AppID 4059240 contains Beta multiplayer and cannot be used to test campaign hosting. AppID 3010850 is scheduled to unlock on October 6, 2026, while Premium Edition advertises advance access beginning October 1.
If a group wants to start during advance access, every member should verify that their own edition grants access at that time. One player’s Premium entitlement does not prove that Standard-edition friends can enter early. The exact global unlock time and any pre-load schedule should be checked on Steam close to launch rather than inferred from the date alone.
Build a four-person Bravo Squad
The official description pairs four-player online co-op with four playable story characters. It does not publish a class system for campaign characters or say that Marcus, Dom, Mags, and Lucas have fixed MMO-style roles. Avoid assigning unsupported abilities before the release build is available.
A useful pre-session agreement is about play style instead:
- Pick a pace for exploration and story scenes.
- Decide whether the group will search side spaces on the first run.
- Agree on who calls targets, watches the rear, and handles long sightlines.
- Keep a revive route and avoid spreading across disconnected cover lanes.
- Let the host state the difficulty and session goal before the lobby launches.
The new movement system allows sliding, jumping, climbing, and more varied cover approaches. In a squad, those tools create coordinated flanks, but they also make it easier for one player to move beyond revive distance. A fast route is only useful if the rest of Bravo can support it.
What Steam players need
Steam currently lists Windows as the native platform and includes Online Co-op, Full Controller Support, and Cross-Platform Multiplayer. The store does not list native macOS or Linux builds. A Steam Deck optimization statement does not turn the product into a native Linux release, and launch compatibility still needs device testing.
Before the session, each player should:
- Confirm the store page shows AppID 3010850 and Gears of War: E-Day.
- Install the base game on an SSD with enough free space for the current 130 GB requirement plus update headroom.
- Update the platform client and graphics driver appropriate to the launch build.
- Test voice chat, controller or mouse-and-keyboard input, and network stability before the campaign save begins.
- Check whether a Microsoft account is required by the final Steam build. The Beta FAQ’s account rule applies to the separate Beta and should not be silently carried forward.
PC split-screen: the important boundary
The Coalition’s campaign announcement states that consoles support two-player split-screen. The same feature is explicitly not supported on PC. That means Steam Remote Play assumptions, two local controllers, or display duplication should not be described as official E-Day campaign solutions.
Players in the same room can still join online from separate supported systems and displays if each person has the required access. Cross-platform support is listed on Steam, but final campaign invitation flow, account-link requirements, host migration, and platform-specific voice behavior need verification in the shipping version.
Hosting, progress, and save questions
The public sources confirm the player count but do not yet explain who owns checkpoint progress, whether a guest can resume the same chapter alone, how character conflicts are resolved, or whether a disconnected player can rejoin mid-encounter. Those are not minor details, so this guide does not borrow answers from Gears 5.
For the first launch session, use a conservative save routine: let the same player host, stop after a visible checkpoint, return to the menu normally, and have every participant confirm their own progress before deleting local data or changing systems. Once observed Steam behavior is available, save ownership and recovery steps can be documented with a build date.
Troubleshoot the right layer
If a friend cannot join, separate entitlement, service, account, and in-session problems:
- Entitlement: confirm everyone can launch AppID 3010850 in the current access window.
- Version: restart Steam and verify each installation is on the same public build.
- Account: follow the final game’s own sign-in or linking prompt rather than the Beta FAQ by memory.
- Network: test a basic Steam connection and inspect official service notices before changing router settings.
- Lobby: recreate the party from the main menu and invite one member at a time.
- Campaign state: try a known checkpoint only after preserving the host’s existing save.
Do not disable security tools, forward broad port ranges, or download third-party “co-op fixes” without an official, version-matched reason. A Beta-known issue is evidence about AppID 4059240 during its test window, not a permanent base-game fix.
Co-op FAQ
How many people can play the campaign online?
Up to four players, matching the four members of Bravo Squad.
Does Steam support two-player local campaign co-op?
No. The official platform breakdown limits two-player split-screen to console. Steam/PC campaign co-op is online.
Is the Multiplayer Beta required for campaign co-op?
No. The Beta is a separate AppID and multiplayer test. The campaign belongs to the base game, AppID 3010850.
Will my friend’s campaign progress carry to a solo save?
That behavior has not been publicly documented for the final Steam build. Verify it after release instead of applying rules from another Gears title.
