The Marksman class uses Horde Siege’s longer sightlines for precision pressure. Its official class bonus improves critical-hit damage, while the Pulse Drone tags Locust for the player and squad. In Gears of War: E-Day, projectile travel and scope sway mean that precision is a process of reading movement, not simply placing a hitscan reticle.
Marksman should turn distant threats into shared information and remove the enemy that most limits the objective. A high-damage shot on an irrelevant target is less useful than a tag that prevents a squad wipe.
Choose a sightline with an exit
Find a position that sees the active R.I.G. approach and remains connected to the squad. Long range can become isolation when Calibrate or Repair moves the mission. Mark the next position before enemies force the transition.
Avoid standing at the highest visible point by default. Elevated cover may expose the player to another lane, and a downed Marksman far from a Supply Cache creates a difficult COG-tag recovery. Use hard cover that blocks return fire and allows a shoulder swap.
Other squads share the Horde map. Their fights can redirect enemies into what looked like a protected rear angle, so recheck the battlefield after every large event.
Tag for a team decision
Deploy the Pulse Drone when the squad needs to identify priority targets, track a push, or coordinate critical fire. Call the tagged enemy’s location and role: heavy center, close left, sniper high, or carrier route. The tag is information; teammates still need a reason to act.
Use the information to decide whether the squad focuses, avoids, or interrupts. Tagging every visible Drone without priority can clutter calls and waste the Tactical Gear window.
Official material does not publish a final tag duration, drone range, cooldown, or modifier table. Tactical Gear Mods can alter class equipment, so those details belong to the current loadout screen.
Lead projectiles and manage scope sway
E-Day simulates projectile travel across weapons, and first-person scopes include sway. Against a moving target, watch tracers and adjust the lead rather than repeatedly correcting only after impact. Use stable cover and time the shot around predictable movement.
Test one distance at a time. Fire at a stationary target, then a lateral target, then repeat under pressure. Record weapon, range, public build, and whether a mod is equipped. Do not import a bullet speed or headshot breakpoint from a different Gears title.
The Longshot is a known precision weapon, while other loadout options depend on class progression. A named role does not guarantee one permanent starting rifle.
Protect the close lane
A Marksman focused through a scope can miss a low or close enemy. Assign a teammate to nearby security, keep a quick sidearm transition available, and leave enough camera awareness to respond to a flank.
When pressure reaches the position, stop defending the idea of being a sniper. Swap, move, and rejoin the squad. The class bonus does not require every shot to come from maximum range.
During a boss or Invasion Event, one player should still clear ordinary Locust. Precision focus on a critical area cannot help if a Wretch or close enemy removes the shooter.
Coordinate with the other classes
Assault can stun a wave long enough for consistent critical pressure. Breacher can force enemies out of protected close positions, while Marksman covers the entry. Medic preserves the formation and can recover a downed shooter without abandoning the whole lane.
With duplicate Marksmen, split lanes or stagger Pulse Drones. Two players shooting the same already-controlled target can leave another approach open. Announce when a critical target is finished so fire moves promptly.
No class composition is mandatory. If the map, objective, or players favor shorter ranges, one Marksman may be enough—or another class may fit better.
Build around reproducible critical access
Class progression unlocks Armor Mods, Tactical Gear Mods, Weapon Mods, equipment, and loadout choices across thirty levels. Choose mods that address the encounter you can reproduce. More theoretical critical damage has little value if sway, travel, or objective movement prevents consistent hits.
Weapon Mods are shared across Horde classes using the same weapon and must be purchased with extracted Weapon Parts after unlocking. Record the exact mod text and build when comparing results.
Versus has no Weapon Mods and equal starts, so a Horde Marksman setup does not create a competitive PvP loadout.
Marksman mission review
Track priority tags, confirmed critical interruptions, time spent outside objective influence, downs caused by tunnel vision, and how often the squad used the information. Review whether a different sightline or earlier rotation would have created the same damage with less recovery risk.
Score alone cannot distinguish useful critical pressure from distant farming. Ask which shot or tag protected a repair carrier, cleared a Secure entry, stopped a heavy threat, or opened extraction.
Repeat on the same map and difficulty before changing several mods at once. Higher difficulty also adds modifiers, so label every comparison.
Marksman FAQ
What does the Pulse Drone do?
It tags Locust units for the Marksman and squad, supporting target identification and coordinated fire.
Does Marksman have increased headshot damage?
The official description says improved critical-hit damage. Exact critical locations and percentages need current-build evidence.
Must Marksman stay at maximum range?
No. Use the distance that supports the current objective and keeps a recoverable position.
